"It Feels Good."

To My Dear Self,

Okay, it’s long past time.  Actually, this is way overdue.  There is something I need to say, and it really is something you need to understand.  So listen very closely and be sure to give your full attention. Because what I say next you really do need to hear…loud and clear.

“It feels good...to feel good.”

So what do I mean?  What am I trying to tell you?

When you are lying in bed every morning, hitting that snooze button, dreading getting up to jump into your workout routine, I need you to pause in that moment and remember something important:

“It feels good…to have a body that can work out.”

And every day when your work and career are calling your name, needing you to be your best, needing you to be where you should be in order to get that job done right…even while you drag your feet, I need you to stop right there and hear these next words clearly:

“It feels good…to have the physical ability to work.”

Then as your day progresses and your children and family need you to be here, and there, and then all of a sudden it feels like you constantly need to be everywhere…although you somehow feel drained from the chaos, I want you to take note and remember this:

“It feels good…to be well and able to run for your family.”

And when it’s time to make dinner, and it seems like a daunting task sitting before you after you’ve already had a long and exhausting day, I want you to stop, to smile, and to hear these next words loud inside of your heart:

It feels good…to be healthy enough to make and enjoy a good meal.”

Because here is the thing my dear self:  There may come a time when life will throw you a curveball, and suddenly, you may no longer have the ability to do these things.  Your health, in an instant, could turn on you…really at any time.  And that good feeling that you so naturally take for granted EVERY.SINGLE.DAY will no longer be there.  It will no longer be a given and expected thing in your life.  And it seems to be…only in these difficult times and when you feel bad…that you actually remember and appreciate when you really did feel good.

Don’t wait for that time….

And I believe deep down you already know all of this.  But really…that reminder…well, it’s still long past time and frankly way overdue.  So keep listening, and don’t forget to pay attention:  You need to remember to nevertake a single day of your good health for grantedanymore.  Instead I need you to smile, take note, and remember this today and for as long as life will allow…”It really does feel good…to feel good.”
